1) Write short - 2-4 sentences and always about somethings that connect to fresh news.
2) Make sure there are no spelling mistakes.
3) If you do not want people to know your real name, invent one - or just put your zip number and not the full address.
4) If you only send to one newspaper, write "Exclusively for...
NEWSPAPER NAME" - this is required in Denmark but not in eg. Poland.
5)
In the start it might take an hour or more to write the letter, but
after some dozens, you should be able to do it in less than 20 minutes
pr. letter.
6) Look in the newspaper you want to write to, to see what style of letters they print.
7)
Use a media search machine or the newspapers homepage to see if they
printed the letter. If it was not printed within 10 days, they probably
never will. If the letter is still relevant, send it to the next
newspaper. Do not be sad if they do not print it - you letter is also a
strong signal to the newspaper about what interests their readers (and
in the end, newspapers need to write about what interests people if they
want to sell).
Good luck, writing letters to the newspapers is a
very effective way of learning to find out what you actually think and
how to formulate it.
